A friend had just asked me to go with her to view this car.
    It's a 2004 Rav4 1.8 petrol, 108k km's on the clock just under 4k.
Has anyone owned one before and maybe what kind of issues to look out for,

Aside from brakes, tyres, knocking and so on.. are they reliable?

Since it's a toyota most likely safe bet?.

From a SIMI Dealer in Cork. http://www.carsireland.ie/1480560?r=%3C%3Cr%3E%3E
From Cannys garage on the South Link Road.

Crazy money for a vehicle which is expensive to tax, heavy on fuel, not very lively.

She had something similar a few years ago, and this is all she's looking for.

So i don't think i could change her mind.

Hmmm, Its not a bad car, they are reliable and the 1.8 is almost bulletproof. I'd put the value at around 2,500EUR though.

Yeah, overall it is a nice car.. There's more money around at the moment so I could see it selling for 3k. Good luck

Would have to disagree, they're well able to go and in 2wd form aren't bad on petrol at all.

That green is probably the worst possible colour on them. I never sold one in that colour.

Yeah the green also makes it look very dated.. thanks for the feedback.

The nicest colour on these is called Arctic green, it's a sort of grey/silver/olive colour.
At this stage you'd be buying on condition or price rather than colour. But that Oasis green colour is strictly is for nuns in Starlets and dirty WH reg Avensiss with missing hubcaps and baler twine coming out the boot.

I think this is a nice enough colour - it's a matter of taste I guess!

I have the same model of rav 4 with the same mileage. I average a little over 30 MPG. I have had it for 6 or 7 months, and the only issue I have had is it is a little thirsty with oil. I think a lot of Toyotas from the noughties have a similar issue. Hopefully this doesn't cause any emissions problems on the NCT.

In terms of the price, if it is in good nick I think it will sell for 3k+. There is a lot of Rav 4's out there for small money, but when I went to see them they were in bad condition.

It is not underpowered in comparison to a lot of Irish cars I would say - the 2WD is not particularly heavy, and the engine produces 120ish horsepower. At 120kph in 5th gear it runs at about 3000rpm. It would be nice if it was a little lower, but it can accelerate from there to 130/140 pretty effortlessly as well. It's also possible to remove the back seats entirely, which is handy for carrying awkward shaped things (like bikes).

It's definitely not the most sensible car to buy, as you'll pay a bit more for tax, insurance and fuel, but if you like the car, the downsides are far from deal breakers.
