    Hi all,

regarding attic conversions, for an attic to be habitable, do you have to create an "upstand" within the roof, like in dormer roofs (1.5m high) to comply with with regs, or can you plaster along the slope right down to eaves?

hope i make sense, just a little confused on the actual construction of roof space. i am okay with tgd part b etc.

    thanks

The ceiling can run to the eaves no problem. I have the same in the 2 bedrooms in my attic space.

While it can be done, why would you if you have a choice, the space below a certain, hobbit, height is unusable unless you get some sort of customised sliding drawers or similar.

    Its also a b***h to clean unless u have a spouse or a robot-vac:D

The 'upstand' is often necessary to prop up the center of the rafters and stop sagging etc. depending on the roof truss design. A lot of the strength of the roof is in the criss cross or W shape web/prop arrangement and if this is taken out, something else has to be put back in its place.
