Limit Facebook notifications

In the past I think Facebook on Android used to only alert me when someone directly contacts me on Facebook, that is if I receive a message, friend request, someone posts on my wall, or I am tagged in a photo.

Now I am receiving all kinds of annoying notifications, I receive push notifications for things like asking if I know certain people and would like to add them, friend attending events near me etc.

I have looked through the settings but not found how to limit notifications to how I would like.

    Is this still possible?

Hold your finger on the notification (in facebook) and you'll get a prompt to see less notifications of this kind. After a while you'll find that they die down.

Exactly, and I seem to get them for events based around Dublin, rather than something literally 'near me'.

Some of these notifications like 'Do you know x' only give an option for 'hide this notification', others have that and 'See less'. Will this method still stop me being prompted do I know people?

I don't get any "Do you know" notifications on Android, so I guess it must work.... :)

You can also go here in your desktop browser and fine tune your notifications ("Desktop and Mobile" section).

These in the mobile section are actually all prompting me to turn them on, so I must already have turned them off. Turning on tagged in photos now though as I would like to be aware of that.

I noticed in the 'On Facebook' section 'Close Friends activity' was enabled, so I have turned it off, perhaps it will somehow help things on Android.

Great, thanks, let anti-socialism and sanity reign! :)
