    Hi Everyone,

Forgive my ignorance but i dont know much about cars so i thought id ask here.

Im looking to purchase a second hand car and Iv found an 2007 1.6 automatic ford focus for sale.

The owner has advised that there is small leak in the power steering pipe from the filler bottle to the pump.

Does anyone have any past experience with this matter?

Is it a bit repair, will it cost much give or take to repair including labor or is this something a novice could do with a few tutorials online.

    Any advise if appreaciated

Its a common failure on the focus. The union where the PS pipes join the pump fails suddenly. It will only get worse.

Start by ringing a ford dealer and ask for a quote to fix, then you have a guide price when you talk to local indies.

I ended up going to South Dublin Ford in Tallaght, Cookstown Industrial Estate.
Cost me 251 parts and labour to get the pipes replaced.
so try ringing them if you're in the pale.

Are these servicable at all as i think i have the same issue in my 05 connect?

Ive tried tightening the bolts on the pump and cant see were any leaks are coming from but the pump does be wet so im assuming its from there

I was thinking maybe just an O ring needed replacing

They can leak at the bottom of the resevouir where the pipe goes on its usually just a matter of replacing the clip with a jubilee clip or maybe having to replace the resevouir if its cracked.

If the pipes leak at the union at the steering pump it is a different matter you wont just have a small leak as its under high pressure it will empty the bottle in no time.
