Getting UK channels or Setanta on Saorview/Freeview TV in Dublin

    Hi Folks,

Bought this digital ready tv (JVC LT-32C350 32" LED TV) last week and have successfully tuned in the main Saorview channels with a Coaxial Cable into an old satellite UPC box on the wall from the last tenants.

Our neighbours in the block of apartments next door somehow have Setanta Ireland come up when they automatically tune in. Does anyone know if this is just an anomaly or is there a way I can tune in Setanta Ireland for free?

Also, is there a way to get UK Freeview channels with a coaxial cable into the wall or would something else be needed? I am in the Clontarf area of Dublin. When I try to tune in using UK as the location the TV tells me it is invalid format.

    Thanks!

Saorview reception requires an aerial somewhere but if the signal is good enough the cabling within a building can act as an aerial.

Have you tried an analogue scan of the TV, a digital scan is picking up the Saorview channels.

Your neighbours TV point is connected to Virgin Media/UPC cable network and tuning in the legacy analogue channels, see the list here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=93774102&postcount=28.

Your apartment may not be connected to the cable network any longer, the only way to get these channels is to subscribe to a pay TV provider that supplies the block, VM or Sky. If the cable has been disconnected the only way to get it reconnected is to subscribe for one of their services.

Great, thanks. Just changed into the other UPC connection that I couldn't get RTE 1 on but now I get all those channels you linked to (Frequencies with Activation Code 13) and just have to deal with RTE 1 on analogue. Great stuff :)

With regards getting UK Freeview, is there any way to get that through just connecting to this UPC TV point? If not what would be the best course of action to try and get them, without installing anything on the outside of the building?

    Thanks.

I doubt you'd get Freeview in Clontarf to be honest. Definitely can't get it through the UPC wall point.
