This is a project I'm working on at the moment http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057583016 to help get my wife "MS" and son "CP" out on the water for weekends away and holidays. I am going to need two bits of equipment.

One is a small lift like this to get from one level to the other.

And I'm thinking of using a 4 way car wheelchair hoist to lift them from the chair to the bed. I'd also be interested to know if any of you got a grant for something like a caravan, mobile home or holiday home that this might fall under the same category :) also any tips or advice on the project would be most welcome.

The first looks very similar to a scissors lift for motorbikes that has had a box welded on top - are you allowed to adapt items to suit or does it have to be specifically designed for disabled people? Something like this on donedeal could be bought & adapted

I'll be adapting anything I can find that is cheep :D that jack looks perfect and I think you can get 12v hydraulic jacks that I could swap out for the pump one in the add. Good thinking I'll look into it a bit more:) Cheers.

I was thinking the same thing about a motorbike lift when I saw that. You could pick up a 12v hydraulic power pack for a tipper or tail lift cheap enough too I'd say which would lift it up for you.
You would also sometimes see small 12v hydraulic cranes for vans in scrap yards too that you could adapt to suit your needs too Im sure.

your more than welcome. If you want to remove the hydraulics out of it already to avoid mess and smell you could replace it with a motor driven linear actuator - they're used in some hospital beds so there is 220v options out there.

Yea that could work the hoist I use at home is run on 12v actuators, another option might be to use a scissor jack and use a motor to turn it :)

I was able to get photos of one in another boat but it's hard to see the workings.

Pity your not in cork I'd lend a hand but I think your in Dublin! I've added the crash panels on internal doors for a friend of mine in a wheelchair and also overhauled his wheelchair another time - it's interesting engineering
