Helmet site - too snug?

    *size i meant

So I bought a new helmet without checking my head size (duh!)

Its a medium with a range ending at 58, turns out im 58.8..

It feels safer than my last helmet, which must be large, in which my head feels like it's swimming.

Is it safer being so 'snug' or should I have more room?

It covers my head but leaves an impression on my forehead, it's not uncomfortable but it is tight, and theres not much room for anything underneath..

the occipital bone is a bit pointy and is only just covered by it..

what to do? am i trying to convince myself its ok?

Won't get much use in the colder months unless you can get a layer under it. I can't comment on the safety aspect but for sure it shouldn't move round in the event of an impact. Swap it

My head is 58.0000000cm in diameter. I have three helmets, 1 is 54-58cm, the other is 53-58cm and the last one is 52-59cm (which I use in winter so I can wear a cap underneath it) the 54-58 helmet is at near full expansion and very comfortable, the 53-58cm has quite a bit of room and I can wear a thin skull cap under it.

I always buy my helmets at the upper limit as my head is not going to grow any more so I don't need anything bigger and buying something with more room just means a bigger helmet and makes my head look like a mushroom.

Is there any height adjustability in the helmet so you can lower it slightly to sit better on the bone at the rear of your head?

In terms of adjustability I have to turn the adjusting dial full way for it to be secure. It's that really which has me questioning it. I imagine the same model in a large would be too big based on having go do that? Confirmation that I do indeed have an odd shaped skull I think.

It's a kask k50 - anyone know of they have funny italian sizes?

    Bighead!!!!

    :pac:

To be effective a helmet should be snug. If properly fitted it should not be capable of moving without a little force

My helmet would be more comfortable if it were a tiny bit bigger, when I wear something under it it tends to press on my forehead. Having said that I am pretty sure it is safer than it would be if i had that extra size. I don't think a "snug" helmet provides any less protection, it provides better protection since it is unlikely to fail to cradle your skull.

So you have to open up the adjuster fully to fit the helmet and then have no tightening left in it? As long as you don't have to force it onto your head and its not uncomfortable, then it 'fits' you and I wouldn't change it for the next size.

Buy a cheaper larger helmet for winter where you'll need to wear a cap/hat underneath.
