Glad to see the 3 Portuguese fishermen on the Irish reg trawler are safe. My question is why were the crew not Irish? I thought that was coming to an end after the Egyptian men were lost off Union Hall. I know these guys are EU citizens but I'm willing to bet there are plenty of Irish fishermen out of work.

Not sure on the ownership of the trawler in question but perhaps the Irish skipper/owner was off on holidays and one of them were replacing him. It boils down to difficulties getting a crew, majority of Irish people don't want to work in a job where salary is dependent on the catch, 80-100 hour working weeks, etc.
