Have been thinking of window tinting the car?

My main reason is If do have expensive ice hockey gear in the car and I do leave the hockey sticks in the car. What I worry about is some one well think my sticks are the 400 euro stick you can buy and well break into the car

Tinting your windows will definitely help conceal whatever is in the back of the car. 5% VLT is basically limo tint is what you'll be looking for(rear windows only).

Some people say that if you have you windows tinted that it gives the impression thats there's something worth robbing in the car which is total BS imo, nearly everyone has their windows tinted for aesthetic purposes only.

Tinted windows and personal belongings have nothing in common .
Never leave any goods visible in car when parking up is my motto .

Tint the rear windows and you'll be grand. Nobody will stick their head up to the window and look inside to check...

Id disagree somewhat. A mates car was broken into . Back windows were tinted.
Back passenger window was broken. Nothing was taken, There was nothing in the car.

Is it a job that can be done at home

    It can.

    You will need:
    - Window tint film. It can be gotten on eBay and you'll need extra for any fcuk ups.
    - Heat gun. The glass isn't perfectly flat so you'll have air pockets that need to be heated up to shrink to size.
    - Squeegee
    - Blade for cutting the tint / cleaning window

Prepare to swear a lot though. Also, doing this in any kind of wind is a pain in the a$$.

For the tinting film or for a professional to do it for you?

Don't even waste your time attempting at home if your doing it outdoors and/or there's much of a curve in your rear window, the sides are fine but if you don't shrink the film on the rear and just put it on, you'll get bubbles and when you try run them out the film creases and looks crap!

We got our car done yesterday for €75 North side Dublin. PM me if you want the name of place. Takes 2-3 hours, he gives it a wash and high quality wax too. It's an April special only.

€75?? What kind of film did they use for that price?

It can be done at home, 90% of tinting is in the prep work i.e. CLEANING, cutting & shrinking. The 10% is the attention to detail in the fitting and tucking behind the seals.

Don't bother with ebay tint, the adhesive is weak and it shrinks poorly. Spend the little bit extra on the likes of Suntek or Llumar and give yourself some sort of fighting chance.
