Ford 7740 Seized Engine

Looking for any advice on a seized engine in a Ford 7740.

I had a mechanic look at it and said he thinks the bore might be seized. Tried to put a bar and a pulley but the engine wont stir. The block itself is fine, nothing came out through it so we may be in luck there.

Just wondering has anyone had any similar experience with this? Does the engine need a rebuild? What cost am I looking at?

    Appreciate any help

Did it seize from lack of oil or overheating??

It was low on oil about 2 weeks ago before I put out fertiliser so I topped it up with a gallon. It was running fine until this. It let a couple of clunks, a metal on metal sound and just stopped.

Was the engine oil pressure light coming on?

Metal on metal is never good, drop the sump and have a look.

The light flicked on but wasn't on constant. So I checked and the oil was low on the dipstick. So topped it up.

What would dropping the sump do? I'm poor mechanically sorry!

Take down the sump of the engine and looking under neath and opening/looseningg big end bearings and journals individually to see is the engine tight on any of them

Though be sure to torque them back correctly and don't EVER mix up the bearings if you take them out

Drain oil into clean bucket and check for filings first

The sump sounds a bit much for myself unfortunately to be honest. In terms of a rebuild what would you be looking at? I'm in the West. Apparently Lanesborough in Longford is the best spot for that?

Know of a lad that spent e7000 on a engine not so long ago this didn't include removal/fitting of engine

Though admittedly that was approx 300HP engine

I'd imagine yours would be a bit less...but no one will give you a price before opening it up to check

Haven't used these lads myself, but anyone round here that did is happy with the results. I think they can swap your engine for a re-conditioned one.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Yeah PJ Donnellan in Lanesborough, big operation, at it for years, have used him twice, can recommend. There's a big guy at the desk when you book in, can be awkward enough to deal with though.

Price depends on what you need done, 4 cylinder engine for a ford, probably common enough parts, you should get a lot done for €1,500 - €1800?

You will need to budget also for someone to take the engine out and put it back in again afterwards, so a good 2 days wages for a lad to do it as a nixer if he had the gear, or any half decent local garage lad should be able to do it for your reasonably enough. I'd say something around €2k and less if things not too bad.

They did two engines for me both 7600 engines I would highly recommend them. Last engine was done in 2001 for 1200 cash could be a lot more now.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck.
Clearly you were keeping an eye on the oil level. Frightening that this can happen even while being mindful of it. Any idea as to what caused it?
I had a flickering oil light on my car a few months ago. I topped it up and kept a close eye on the level but it kept flickering. Eventually a horrendous noise came like something crunching. But the engine kept running. Turns out it was a blocked oil pipe to the turbo charger. Destroyed the turbo charger obviously.

If your engine oil pressure light is coming on, even a flicker you should get it looked at ASAP. When the engine pressure drops, it usually means that there is excessive wear somewhere that is leaking out oil and dropping the pressure. That results in oil not getting to the end of the oil lines and causing bearings to seizure up.
