    Looking for advice opinions please

Would you put out fertiliser this week. I'm in Louth and we had frost this morning. I looks like it's going to be a poor enough and wet week ahead....

    Thanks

If 'twas me - I would...
Time is pushing on. Best to get it out now...
You see the dairy lads talk about putting out stuff in Jan and Feb...

Today isn't too bad a day here, nice bits of sunshine... Between the showers :(

But - tis easy for me to talk, when tisnt I have to pay for the fertiliser ;)

It doesn't suit my system to spread fertiliser in April because most years May is the best month to grow grass and if fertiliser is spread next week it's peak effect will be all through May and causes havoc with grass quality if there's not enough stock to graze it.
I spread here a month ago and the contractor ran out of fertiliser leaving 10 acres undone, I'd be in deep trouble if all my farm was like that 10 acres.....way more grass where i spread the manure despite the weather

The bit of fertiliser i put out was worth it all right...

My plan is to go with grab line now after the ewes... As the pH is so low in some fields...

Prob won't go with fertilser again til I get lime on all the ground... And see how we are for grass...

Fertiliser will be twice as effective when you get the PH up,
Do you need to take the sheepoff the land to spread Granulated lime, I didn;t think so,
How much are you spreading to the acre

I prob don't, but prefer to have em outa the field when spreading...

Will spread 2-3 bags / acre, dependant on the field / soil sample...

Also - my little tractor is in hospital at the minute. So tis all only talk til that comes back, as can't spread much without it :)

    Bit of advice please.
Need to get fertiliser out on silage ground and grazing ground asap as the land was too wet up to now. Land is ok to travel on now but no rain is forecast for the next week and frost promised at night so just wondering will it be ok to go ahead today or should I wait for more favourable conditions ?
    thanks in advance

Think the forecast is to get milder as the week goes on. Please God. Can't seem to get ahead here. Rotating them but with no real quantity of grass in field , their flying through it and not giving next paddock a chance before forced to let them to it.

Is the growth improving for you yet, very tight here, have a weeks grass ahead here but still very poor growth, only about three to four inches of grass on a paddock when they go into it after a three week rest........I'm overgrazing i suppose to get a three week break, Takes grass to grow grass as they say.
Dosed them today in the hailstones, OH looked up her diary and we dosed on the 27 april last year and surprisingly there was hailstones too.
that nth wind blew all last year

Same story as yourself im afraid. No great substance in the field when they go in , so it ain't holding them over. Feeding abit of meal as well to tie them over and try to extend the stay. Having said I'm feeling positive that the weather is beginning to turn milder and cannt keep continuing the way it has. The bit of rain might even help bring it on, hopefully .

Dosed them today. Was thinking of you rangler. How do you manage to do 700. I was wrecked and I'm 30 years your junior.
Anyway lambs done and moved to new paddock. Nice bit of grass on it for them. After this if grass doesn't start growing may move them to the out farm which I don't really want as problems with dogs at beginning of year with ewes when they were there. Think we have them all taken care off/ under control but still prefer to keep the lambs around the house.

Was surprised how well the lambs were doing considering the weather

    .
Only 400 old enough to do today, OH and I dosed the lambs and footbathed ewes and lambs between 11 am and 3.30.
Was surprised they looked so well too but you'd know that they didn't get enough milk due to the weather.Temperature supposed to improve next week,
Have a lot of scalds, even in the younger batch that won't be in for dosing for another week. weather problem again i suppose

Looked at forecast . Looks like temperature will be creeping up by weekend with a mixture of showers. Looks like we're going to get some grass lads!!!

Raining here now tonight, nice soft rain, would have been good to have the fertilizer out today, but me poor little donkey (tractor) is in hospital :(
