    Hi ,

Im coming close to new bike time . The bike I have now is a full on steel tourer . I was hoping to get something a little more sporty but still steel ,something that I can use non competitively in Sportifs but yet also do some light touring weekend camping stuff /commuting with . Looking around the Kona Honky Tonk seems to tick all the boxes . Looked at the croix de fer too but the honky tonk seems a little more racy which is what I'm after . Also considered a genesis equilibrium but that seems way bit too racy for my needs . Does anyone have one and is it a good bike ?

    Thanks ,

    Barry

    Excellent bike. Have this one:

Have it a year now. Use it for commuting to work (about 110km a week) and about town but it is also ideal as a weekend touring bike. Its great on the rough Irish roads. Not sure about using it on Sportifs?
    Gearing might not suit everybody.
Stupid question on this forum - but are you going to keep the full on steel tourer?

So its considered a bit on the heavy side for sportifs etc? , but by my standards and coming from the tank of a bicycle I am used to its feather light . I went into cycle ways and picked one up to test the weight . And yes Ill be keeping the touring bike if I can get away with it

Kona have a promo ad for it on youtube that makes it look very sporty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQaHmXYh0ec

Depends how much you add or subtract from it I guess. Have 700*28c tyres, mudgaurds, back carrier, shimano hub dynamo and B&M Lights on it so it all adds up for me and makes more suitable for touring. If you did put 700*23c tyres on it would help for Sportifs for sure.

I've got one, it is a bit on the heavy side for sportifs but it makes a lovely commuter. Lovely looking bike too.

Mine has 23c tyres and even still, I wouldn't fancy a hilly sportif with it much. I'd go for the genesis if you're dead set on a steel sportif bike, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Kona for less sporty uses.

Second the genesis. Looking for a bike last year and considered to croix and honky but eventually settled on the genesis. Great bike. Very comfy. Easily comparable to my so called good bike. Mudguard and rack eyelets. Currently running on stock rs300 wheels and 28 tires and couldn't be a smoother ride. Next upgrade is 25 tires for sportive season (faster than 23cc and comfier )
