Saw a headline at work this morning that the Church has opened itself up to Gays, then was listening to newstalk on the way home where the commentators said that nothing had changed. I know people like a headline. :-)

I read over the document later, its very well written and is the Catholic teaching for our day. Anyone else had the chance to read it?

Hi Alma, no, I haven't read it.

What I gather from the Pope's recent comments is that we shouldn't rush to judgement when observing situations from the outside.

I seriously doubt he's condoning fornication etc.

I have skimmed through it, I could not see that the single sentence about same-sex couple indicated any changed opinion by the church. I did note that the first section of the first chapter is titled 'You and your wife' which did not seem like a very promising start. A similar attitude towards women does continue throughout. It did not seem to me that the letter said anything very useful or original, but since it is - not unreasonably - directed towards the faithful, it does not matter what I took out of it.

There will never be same-sex marriage in the Catholic Church. To allow it would be to deny Christ's teaching in the Gospel.
