I just don't get it. I mean yes if you are projected to go in the later rounds and you have played at a college where you have little tape avilable then it makes sense.

Coaches will ask you to do a variety of things that they will not have seen you do before or things that are out of the norm for the scheme you ran and assess you on that. I just don't understand why projected first round picks are doing tours of the country to play act for coaches running injury risks before the draft.

Every year we see non contact injuries in the off season, why is the likes of elliot trapsing around the country when he is realistically looking at a top 15 pick and risking injury?

I mean being realistic a lot of this is teams saying, we're looking at taking this guy, come trade for our pick.

Team with top 10 pick "Hey, could you come in for a visit?"
Player "No, not bothered I might get injured and I'm going top 10 anyway"
Team: "I guess we know who we are not drafting".

Releat this conversation enough times and you are slipping into the later rounds.

That's not the point though, the point is why are they bringing them in in the first place and risking injuries?

Same kinds of reasons for playing pre-season games.

To see them work out, ask them questions, go over videos with them, check their understanding of the game, see what their personality is like, etc, etc.

I think this is more the point, I would say that it is to spend time to get to know them, ask them questions, get a feel of the person etc.

what do you think the players are doing coming up to the draft? they are working out anyway so there is no additional risk of injury.

and with regards why the teams do it they are about to invest millions and millions of dollars into this person an interview seems fair enough

Smart players will also see these visits as relationship building. For example, if they go to a team and bomb, having struck up good rapport with a front-office or management team may be the difference between getting another shot or not.
