    Hi,

    I have been offered a job with 17-18 hours. However, I need to work 19.5 hours to receive FIS which I need to help pay childcare costs. I have asked a recruiter if it is ok to ask to increase my hours to 20 but they said yes just ask, but still unsure..

    What would people here think?

    It's not really though tbh, it's a negotiation. In order to be able to work for them, you need to qualify for FIS. And in order to do that you need to be contracted for more hours.

    It's really a case that if you don't ask for the extra hours, you won't be able to accept the job, so you've nothing to lose by asking.

    You need 19.5 hours to qualify for FIS payment. Ask them straight out for 19.5 hours even if this means a reduction in your hourly rate, provided it is not at min wage already and that the FIS payment is big enough to make this reduction worthwhile and if the organisation rules and structure allows this.

    By offering a 17-18 hr roster the organisation may be deliberately trying to disqualify you from receiving any FIS payment for ideoligical anti SW reasons but that is a far out possibility.
