Have an '04 Audi A3. Left rear light (not brake light) went and I got a warning on the dashboard. I took out the bulb and replaced it with one the guy in the shop gave me and nothing. Am I missing something?

Check the socket by moving the working bulb from the other lamp over.

    Is the bulb in correctly

I checked more than one bulb in the socket and made sure they were in correctly. Checking the fuse could be a good shout. Is there any tell tale signs on the fuse that it is gone? e.g. blackened

Try swapping another fuse of the same rating.

Could be a bad earth connection.

The new bulb could also be faulty. Check an see if filament wire is not broken. However the most likely cause is a bad or corroded connection. You might have to lightly sand the connection points in bulb holder. You should also be able to visually check if fuse is gone by looking to see if small strip of wire has melted. You should be able to tell from side view or if it has the smaller fuses looking down from the top

So I took the bulb from the good side and put it into the bad side and it didn't work. I checked both fuse boxes but couldn't directly see any mention of the location of the left rear light fuse. Anyone have any insight where it might be located?

I checked a few of them that I thought it might be but the fuse didn't seem blown. I've also read that sometimes the fuses can be hard to spot that they are blown. Would a voltmeter help in this instance?

I was thinking that the connections may be corroded but they don't seem bad. I might sand them just in case.

It's not likely to be the fuse as one light works - fuses don't control individual lamps.
I'd say it is ether corrosion or wiring to the socket. Do you have a volt meter?

I'd take them all out,one by one,
Hey a torch, check properly, or change the whole lot(light ones)might be condensation in the fusebox, let air at it,other than that, auto Electrician

I don't currently but I'm getting a loan of my mate's soldering iron, for something else, on Saturday so I was going to ask him for his voltmeter aswell.
