Hi there, I am after getting two front wheels for a TT bike to try out from a buddy of mine. I have a ffwd tri spoke wheel and a 404 zipp firescreen., Anyone know which would be the better wheel to have on the front of a TT bike. I can only use one. If I was to guess I be thinking the ffwd tri spoke but I'm no expert so maybe someone can help me out here and suggest which be the better wheel for a 10km and 20km TT.

    Thanks in advance.

If I could only have one then I would get the 404. For me the tri spoke is hairier than even an 808 in a cross wind (thats a Hed Trispoke in my case, not the FFWD but I expect its similar).

I've found 808s are fine in crosswinds but tri spokes are more challenging. For a TT bike I would go with the Zipp all other things being equal (would use the tri spoke if it's calm though)

    Thanks for feedback guys.
Would there be much between the two wheels on a calm day? These TTs I would be doing would be on flat roads.

Its not necessarily the flat roads that will dictate it, the wind would be the biggest factor. You will get a lot more gusty days than calm days. 404 for me

do you have a pm? find a similar road. 5km at a set power level with one wheel. repeat with other .see which is quicker. there is likely no right answer on which is faster, frame and other factors come into play, and proper testing would tell more than people here can guess at.

if you had to pick one based on this thread, i'd probably go with the zipp as well.
