Prove who I am.

Bit of an odd question here. I am dealing with an awkward legal situation abroad. The other parties (abroad) want to co-operate but need me to prove that I am who I say I am.

Is there a way of doing that?

Birth cert, passport, drivers licence, utility bills etc.

I mean over the internet - for example, if I was living at home as a teenager, I could get all these documents belonging to my mother or father. Just scan them in.

Is there any recognised way over the internet of proving your identity?

Couple the suggestion above with a live Skype call?

Skype them and during the skype send them a scan of your ID?

This sounds odd. You'd want to be careful in handing out your information to these strangers.

In fairness, I contacted them and they are being ultra careful.

I was going to post along the lines of Mustard's post. It sets my nerves jangling when I see this sort of thing. Be very careful that they are not trying to do you over. It is not uncommon for confidence tricksters to start out by making the victim get in touch with them first - just so that the victim feels like they have initiated the contact and must be safe as a result.

If you are going to lengths to prove to them who you are, OP, what do you know about them? Do you have proof of who they are?

The seriously real concern here is that having proven who you are to their entire satisfaction they will then be able to prove subsequently to anyone else that they are you..........

If they are on the level there must be many other forms and or methods of identification that would be in order.

This is not a business deal.

Doing some research for a family tree I googled an uncle (long dead) in Australia. He was involved in a legal dispute but I couldn't find the resolution - it was quite a dispute. I couldn't find any details online so I rang his solicitor (he had no family in Australia). The solicitor is happy to speak with a nephew but needs to know I am who I say I am.

    Appreciate your concerns.
