At clonsilla 7pmish yesterday I watched 5 trains pass at the level crossing before the gates went up. Can anyone beat that?

LOL - not in this country.
Id say there were a few irate motorists blowing horns.

How long would it take to actually build a bridge there?

They kinda have done. The bulk of the traffic through Clonsilla XNG was Lucan-Blanchardstown traffic and this is now routed over the relatively new bridge at Porterstown thus reducing traffic at Clonsilla.

Yet reading the submissions to the NTA on overall strategy there are plenty of NIMBYs who seem to think that the level crossings don't need to be removed - they don't want a large bridge built at Coolmine for example.

5 trains in how many minutes, you could be waiting 10-15 minutes for two on Cork line!

At clonsilla, with waits to join and leave the mainline you do get one short period of 5 in a short orig period (to Sligo, Maynooth and m3 and from Maynooth and m3) and could in theory get 6.

No individual gaps are enough to raise the gates
