Thinking of going island hoping in August with my girlfriend for 10 days to 2 weeks, anybody got any tips, advice, islands to visit or a good route to take? Thanks!

Be sure to book all your accommodation in advance - Greece in August is very busy and very crowded. Allow a day or so at the end of your trip for strikes - every time I've been to Greece there has been a ferry strike!

There are direct flights from Dublin to Athens with Aer Lingus, so that might be a good place to start. You can also fly direct from Dublin to Corfu, and to Crete.

I'd advise flying to Athens and staying there at least one night - then taking the ferry directly to Santorini for a couple of nights, then back via Naxos, Paros or Mykonos (or all three if you have time). The ferry from Paros to Athens only takes a couple of hours. Then overnight in Athens (if there's a strike that'll give you a bit of wriggle room) and then fly home.

It will be VERY hot in Greece in August and it's the most expensive time of the year to travel. If you can put your holiday off until September you may have a better time of it. Having said that, the Greek islands are just fantastic and you'll have a great time.

yes the accommodation is near to twice the price in August that you'd get in September.
and Sept would give you the option of just arriving off a ferry and picking up accomodation as opposed to be worried about what you can get or pre-booking.

any less crowded too - somewhere like Santorini is a bit much when it's too packed.
