Hi Folks, I have just moved to Greystones from Rathfarnham and have a few questions on a couple of spins.

1: instead of going up and down the N11. What is a nice spin around 50 km to get fitness up on the bike.

2:I want to tackle going up to Roundwood. I take it the easy route is up through NewtownmountKennedy.

    Cheers,

    Michael

1: Kilcoole, Newcastle, Rathnew return on the coast road will get you just under 40km. Keep going to Glenealy for close to 50km.

2: The two easiest climbs to Roundwood are Callow from Newtown https://www.strava.com/segments/1632004 or Easy Devils https://www.strava.com/segments/2996717

    3: Bray Wheelers

As Plastik said down the coast road to Rathnew or Wicklow and you could then come back through Ashford and Newtownmountkennedy. I also like heading over Bray Head and on out to Killiney/Dalkey and Dun Laoghaire. Roundwood to Annamoe down by Devils Glen and back by the coast road is another nice one either direction. Welcome to Greystones!

I'm waiting for my bike to work scheme to be processed and get a bike (ordered Cannondale synapse 7).

I won't be looking to do 50km rides just yet, but I'll follow this thread with interest.

You'll know me by the saggy arse drooping over the saddle as my bike wobbles from side to side!

Why not go to Roundwood via the Sally Gap ;-).

    Greystones -> Delgany -> Kindlestown Hill -> Kilmacangoue -> Powerscourt Waterfall -> Glencree -> Sally Gap -> Luggala -> Roundwood -> NewtownMtKennedy -> Kilcoole -> Home

    https://www.strava.com/routes/4576715

60k and about 1200m of climbing.

Missed heading up Red Lane - never turn down an opportunity to head up Red Lane is what I say.

This would be rude not to mention Slaughter and "Real" Devils Glen

Can't believe you've not been sent up Altidore yet!

Not mapped it, but Coast Road --> Rathnew --> Rathdrum --> Moneystown (or Laragh) --> Roundwood maybe an option for the spins, and check out some of the climbs as descents on the way home. Maybe a bit longer than 50km, but draggy rather than big climbs for the most part.

    A good post, Macy.

For the OP, if he goes straight at that junction, it's a lovely roll up towards Spaghetti junction, then that gives a myriad of options- Moneystown and back to Roundwood;on to Bookies bridge; left to Rathdrum etc.

Platiks third point about Bray Wheelers is the best advice though. Different routes every Sat and Sun and different groups based on ability.. He is the best recruiter since Uncle Sam!!!
