    Hi all,

What would be better car to hold a value in 3 years time..1.4tsi 150 or 1.6 tdi 110? They are both 161 Highline models.

I was driving 150 tsi and it is way better and faster then 1.6 tdi but the price is same.

Also i heard that mpg on 1.4 is not as it claimed by VW.

    Thanks in advanced.

Unfortunately with the buying public the diesel would probably be worth a bit more. Really boils down to whether you are concerned about buying for yourself or the next owner.

I'm sure the petrol will be nicer to drive and more refined, but there will be nowhere near the same demand for it from future buyers, us Irish love a daysal.

Having said that, maybe you could negotiate a better deal on the petrol to offset a lower resale value.

Oh, and mpg is exaggerated for diesels as well as petrol. Don't believe any of them.

And it's not just future punter you need to worry about, it's the garage giving you the trade in price the next time around. Some would run a mile from cars they don't have as much confidence in easily selling.
Of course, that's a knock on effect of Joe public, there's a buyer for everything, but a lot of garages wouldn't put their money where their mouth is.
Especially important if you're banking on residuals to make PCP less painful when starting again in 3 years.

At the end I took Highline diesel. MPG is amazing and overall I am very happy with it.
