    Hello,

I'm currently searching for a small car for my 81 yr old mum. She drives an old Honda civic. However would like a new or newer and smaller car. She drives only around the local area, but being able to drive means the world to her. She finds her current car a bit too big to manage in terms of parking etc.

I'll try the motoring forum but would like to get peoples experiences on here for the more mature driver. Any make or model suggestions or experiences most welcome.

    Thank you

I know several who like the Toyota yaris for it's size yet it's easy to get in and out of.

My sister got rid of her Civic and replaced it with a Honda Jazz.

It is reliable, smaller with lots of space. It is comfortable and easy to get in and out of due to being taller than many other small cars. And has the benefi of being similar in layout to the Civic, so it will be a quick car to get used to.

I had a lend of a diesel Suzuki swift recently and I have to say it was magnificent!!! Boot was a bit small for my needs but still brilliant car and lots of fun to drive and so easy to park.

Try Hyundai Getz if you are thinking second hand, had one for 10 years, never had a bother with it, easy to park and nip around town. think the i10 is the replacement for the Getz (same size)

    21/25

Acquaintance just got s/hand i10 and comments lovely to drive, seating a little bit high for petite ladies, fuel efficiency poor at 40 mpg, mostly short trips; n:)nippy enough when needs to be.:)

I'd go with a Yaris but get an automatic one, so much easier for her to drive.

Honda Jazz, new style out recently... and Yaris good also. Sister in Law has automatic Yaris with rear camera. Both will be neat parkers (helps to have parking sensor all round) and both good on stowage but especially versatile is the Jazz. Maybe it will come down to handyness of a main dealer for service etc? not so many Honda about??

I have a Jazz, the older one, rather fancy the new one - though it has possibly more bells and whistles than I need. I like it because it is so easy to make space in and get stuff into it; there again I use a car for hauling stuff a lot so I appreciate the space.

I would second the Toyota Yaris. Great mileage per gallon and the seats are that much higher than many cars, you actually just sit into it rather than others which you have to sit down into which makes getting in and out a problem.
