Seai grant for ev cars

    Can any of you hybrid/electric car drivers tell me if the customer has to do any paperwork/ application if buying an eligible car or does the dealer look after it?
    I have gotten conflicting info from dealers. One tells me I get the 5000 euro from seai myself after I buy the car but the seai website says the dealer gets the money and takes it off the list price?
    Any experiences of this appreciated.

    Think its the latter, it comes off the list price.

    Dealer does all the work on the grant etc.

    "bought" an Outlander PHEV last week - arrived on Friday and invoiced by the dealer at the amount after the VRT/SEAI grant.

    Just have to try and explain how to work it, to a Spanish customer, on Thursday - took Mitsubishi 10 mins to explain it to me, so might take a while longer than that for me.

    6 different levels of engine braking can be selected!

    Lol at a dealer expecting to sell EVs and they don't even know how 5k grant comes about. Oh dear.

    Actually , technically the SEAI grant is paid to you the customer. But typically the dealer does the paperwork on your behalf. You sign the form he fills out the paperwork and submits it for approval. You then need to show evidence of motor tax for the dealer to claim the grant.

    If I was buying using pcp, should it be based on the price of the car before or after the grant. Dealer is saying before as this is the retail price and wants to base a pcp on this and give me the 5k after.

    Huh, that nonsense. Any trade in , scrapage deal or grant is deducted from the price , then that is what you finance. Otherwise you are in effect paying pcp interest on the seai grant.

    No dealer that quoted me that, priced it like yours.

    The only reason the dealer might try pull that fast one, is if there was some issue over approving the grant

    Ask and walk away if not satisfied. Plenty of dealers
