Do you think it's a bad idea to buy second hand shifters?

My 9 speed Shimano Sora road shifter died last night. I'm on a budget, can't afford to buy a brand new set of shifters, so I'm looking at these:

Sure, they look banged up, but the seller describes them as "Bit of wear but work fine."

I don't have many other options available to me, and I could get these shifters for €50 I think.

Does anyone have any objections? Is it a terrible idea? How much life should you expect to get out of a shifter?

    Yeah I did, thanks!

You said on the phone you were unsure if it's a 9 speed. I can see in one of the photos it says something-speed on the shifter, can't quite make it out, did you see what I'm talking about? Does it say 9? :)
