Do you think it's a bad idea to buy second hand shifters?

04-04-2016 7:49pm#1My 9 speed Shimano Sora road shifter died last night. I'm on a budget, can't afford to buy a brand new set of shifters, so I'm looking at these:
Sure, they look banged up, but the seller describes them as "Bit of wear but work fine."
I don't have many other options available to me, and I could get these shifters for €50 I think.
Does anyone have any objections? Is it a terrible idea? How much life should you expect to get out of a shifter?0
