Hopefully a bit different to the other Belgium threads, I'm looking for something specific.

Basically I stopped going to music festivals around the same time as I started drinking craft beer, and there is a causal relationship there. However the swap from micro breweries in Ireland/UK/US to cans has meant I don't have to choose between good beer and good music anymore.

Normally when you (I) go to Brussels or wherever it's Chez Moeder and just searching out quality, this time I'm looking for something else, going to a festival in Belgium and will need cans or possibly those 5 or 6 litre mini-kegs.

I know there were murmurings of Cantillon canning, but I've seen nothing of it since, while Leffe, Hoegaarden, Palm, Rodenbach should all be easy enough to get in cans in a supermarket. But is there any breweries canning over there that might be a bit of step up from that?

Also if anyone knows where the best place for that kind of purchase in Belgium might be, whether its brussels or bruges or lueven or whatever that would be appreciated.

Probably because the calendar flipped over to April 2nd.

A step up from Rodenbach? You what? :p The St. Feuillien dry-hopped saison we get over here is pretty good. It may be export-only, though.

Even the small supermarkets tend to have decent selections so I'd start there.

Yea I'll have to make due with Rodenbach, I guess what I mean is when in Belgium it seems almost shame to drink the same beer twice. Thanks though I'll probably just stock up in the nearby Colruyt unless something more outrageous turns up.

I know what you mean. Personally I think it's a shame to go to Belgium and spend some of your time at a music festival instead of in the pub, but each to his own. Enjoy!

(In all seriousness, I think Rodenbach is an absolute classic beer, perfect for every occasion, and the fact that it's available in cans is a major bonus.)

Belle-Vue kriek is the only other can that springs to mind that you haven't mentioned.

yea, only ever remember seeing the likes of Leffe, Hoegaaden (and Juliper which you missed out on) . Some of the fruity stuff is also in cans as also mentioned.

for buying, Delhaize is where I'd go. They normally have a decent selection and you can get the rest of whatever you need there like water and food. Its a bit like Tesco, as in its not Lidl, but they do have a good selection of everything.

If youre in Brugge town, the Carrfour expresses there have a great selection of beer (better than the Carrfour express I visited in Leuven) but its that little bit dearer than Delhaize.

actually, heres the online page of delhaize to give an idea of their beer selection, and cans

Only recently started drinking high % beers which brought me to the Belgium beers. Mostly Duvel, La Chouffe, Chimay and Leffe ...delicious....but jees at nearly €4 a bottle its expensive when your drinking two night a week :-(

Are you sure you won't be allowed bring bottles? I was at a metal concert in Vienna where the concession stands were selling large bottles of lager, so it's worth checking, things are a bit more civilised on the mainland.

Were they plastic or glass though?
