Getting RTE One on BT Box

I am in the north and I bought a BT TV box today. So far it's working well and there's the unexpected bonus of it also picking up RTE 2, TV3 etc.

One thing I've noticed is that RTE One seems to be missing from the EPG.

I did a search for a program on RTE and it the EPG found the entry for the programme, but the channel isn't actually listed. If it is, it's under unknown or something.

Are there frequencies etc I can tune in manually to try and get RTE One? Can I tune it in manually?

The signal is via a rooftop aerial and the box is connected to the internet.

    Thanks!

Is RTE 2 in HD? If so, you're getting it from a southern transmitter. RTE One is on a different multiplex so it's possible that your aerial is picking up Mux 1 but not Mux 2. In which case, you'd probably need to consider an additional aerial or possibly realign your existing one (but keep in mind that you might degrade your UK channels).

If RTE 2 is in SD, then it's from the NI mini mux and you should get RTE One from the same setup.

    If they're getting TV3, it's Saorview. TV3 isn't on the NI mux.

I wouldn't think an additional aerial is required if RTE2/TV3 are already being picked up (most aerials for Saorview reception in the north especially in the populated east are group C/D covering both channel frequencies for Saorview) nor any aligning as the present aerial is obviously directed at a transmitter in the south transmitting Saorview signals, probably Clermont Carn. As pointed out RTE 1HD is on a different multiplex from RTE2/TV3 as is UTV Ireland and RTE1+1 so possibly signal strength is the issue as channel frequency for RTE1HD is higher up the band than RTE2HD/TV3. RTE 1 HD can be tuned in manually on Ch. 56 from Clermont Carn.

Yeah I think RTE 2 is available in HD, pretty sure I saw it listed in the EPG.

Will see if I can tune RTE 1 manually somehow.

Your problem is poor signal, manual tuning won't fix that. (It's not like the box is finding multiple versions of RTE1, & you're trying to watch one of the duds.)

Just a quick update on this. Seems like the signal was the issue. We had a guy out to check the aerial as the RTE signal was patchy. He said it was due to where we were picking the signal up from and instead he changed it to get the signal from Sligo. Since then, it's been working perfectly.
