Looking to buy a plough for hobby for planting spuds etc. Maybe in a few years for a couple of acres or more. Was looking at fergy 2 furrows. Have came across 3 furrow ransomes also
Its for mf165 or 240. Nothing excessive. What kind of money and what to look for ? Only ever ploughed with rev plough in college.. seems easier than conventional? Maybe even try a few plough days if that makes a difference to what i buy

I bought a MF 793 2f a few years back and I ploughed with it for the first time 2 weeks ago. It's doing a good job in places, it's just the operator that's messing it up!! It's behind a 35x and tbh it doesn't really like pulling it up a slope, but if it were on a 165 it'd sail up. Mine was about €200, unrestored and not incl. transport

With ransomes it all depends on boards and what you are ploughing. UCN is the body type I use, but AFAIK they are not allowed in ploughing competitions, it's mostly YL bodies for competitions. Few good UK websites in UK tips for buying a plough etc. http://stokesoftongnorton.weebly.com/

Parts for ransomes are scarce and expensive here, more plentiful in UK but getting them here is expensive. Look up westlake plough parts.

Thanks for replies so far. Il be honest board numbers etc im pretty clueless so any advice would be great! Was thinking of getting on for a hobby and although its cheaper to pay someone to do it , when the weather breaks and you're still waiting makes you slightly peeved! Hence I though of investing in one, just trying to get some reasonable that I can justify. Im not too keen on doing one up as again im not totally sure my way about them just yet, keep your suggestions coming please!!
ive spied this one for 500 sterling, suitable for 165?

Should be ok for the 165 on level ground, looks like ransomes boards and points, but never saw a ransomes with the pressure system.

Well you are getting disks AND skimmers , plus auto reset. If it was a Kverneland it would be double the price.
Do most ploughing competitions not limit you to two furrows?
