Hi there just wondering if anyone had any idea if you can extract data from dead iphone?
Its an iPhone 6 that went for a swim and sadly died despite resuscitation attempts.
Can data be recovered in anyway?
I'm also just wondering if anyone knows maybe if phone keeps backup or sync anywhere else besides icloud or itunes. Itunes backup is'nt showing any old backups and icloud only had some contacts.
I found notes in gmail account. Any help greatly appreciated!

To be honest if it's not in iTunes or iCloud it's gone, Apple don't store any of your content anywhere else, it's up to the user to store/look after their content(don't mean that in a smart arse way by the way, it's just how Apple operate, they don't want access to your stuff), if you were on IOS 9 or above it will show you pretty much everything that's in your iCloud on iCloud.com(some of your contacts might actually be linked to gmail or Hotmail though so they may turn up when you sign back in on a new phone)

Don't suppose you had installed Dropbox or Google Photos?

I did get notes and contacts back from gmail, but it was photos that I really wanted after contacts.
I tried google drive and a few had saved, must've changed some settings unknowingly to manage that.
I also did have Dropbox but none of my camera roll seem to be on there. Again I must have had the settings synced. 😔Live and learn.
Wonder if there's a company who can recover the data, I did think about transferring motherboard to another phone to see? But maybe it's the motherboard that's the problem!?!
I don't even know where that data is held on them.

Thanks for the responses by the way! 😊

What resuscitation attempts were made? Did you bring it to a shop? I'd recommend e-tech.ie if you'd like a 2nd opinion. Also if you don't have insurance apple will -likely- replace water damaged phones. It won't get your data back and it won't be free/cheap, but cheaper than buying a new one.

    Thanks flyguy,
It was partially submerged only for a few seconds, so I took a hair dryer to the openings, then placed it in the bag of rice in warm location while I phoned a few shops. Actually sent it to a place on baggot st the next day and they tried the alcohol baths and said they tried a few other components in it but no joy and sent it back. I forgot to ask them about data recovery etc as I was travelling at the time.

I'm not saying e-tech can fix it, but I would definitely let them have a look, they'll probably won't even charge you if they can't fix it. The reason I specifically mention e-tech is because it seems they have a bit more expertise and skill than the average repair shop. Just look at posts from other users about problems no one else could fix. They're next to Dundrum shopping centre but you can post as well.

Thank you so much! I'll try anything at this point. I heard of a company abroad that can supposedly retrieve stuff but I'm not sure of anyone in Ireland. From goggle I have seen motherboard/logic board repairs so maybe it's possible but very specialised.
I'm not even too worried about the phone, would be nice to bring it back as its 64gb version so costing about €850 to replace but I'd be happy enough with data to be honest. Thanks again though I'll call them in the morning! 😊

As I said if it can't be fixed apple will replace it for €321.30 see: https://support.apple.com/en-ie/iphone/repair/service/pricing
Unless the t&cs have changed Apple replace water damaged phones for the mentioned fee.

Oh that's interesting, never knew that!
I also spoke to the good people at e-tech this morning so taking my phone in there to see if they can do anything. They definitely seemed more confident about working on the motherboard so fingers crossed they can do something with it or retrieve some data from it.
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply with all that info. Really appreciate it and will let you know what happens...
