Asperger's or just socially inept?

Ive been wondering lately if perhaps I have aspergers? ive always struggled socially and have only been able to make a few close friends, one of them im sure is on the autism spectrum, she ticks all the boxes for aspergers. Most of my other friendships have been flaky and unreliable and im always used by friends or treated pretty badly.
I was bullied all through school, no one tried to help or intervene and it escalated, i became suicidal at age 12, i only ever had 1 or 2 friends at a time at by the end of secondary school i didnt have one friend there and i ended up dropping out.
I dont know why its been so hard for me to make friends? i never fit in anywhere. i care so much about others and always consider their feelings. I grew up in an isolated place though and my mum was very strict about me socialising so maybe i just missed out on social skills? None of the other asperger symptoms fit me, the only one i relate to is the lack of friends and connecting with others...

Just wondering if anyone has experiences with adults with aspergers or social problems in general?

No one here can say whether you have aspergers or not but social awkwardness alone isn't a symptom. Aspergers is a complex condition where those affected are unable to read social cues hence the awkwardness but there would be other symptoms as well.

If you have a history of being bullied its no surprise you have bad social skills so it is possible you have social anxiety which would be linked to childhood trauma.

There are groups out there for people with social anxiety, groups like the one in the Mater hospital which offer cbt or Stepout Ireland that provide a social outlet. It's very common, approximately 1 in 8 Irish people have some from of it.

Yeah I have pretty bad social anxiety, im hoping to get CBT soon, i was seeing a counselor for the last 2 years, she wasnt helpful in the slightest but she was cheap. Hoping to find someone with more experience that doesnt cost too much money. Thanks for the tip, id never heard of those places or groups, ill check them out x
