Which MacBook?

I am buying a machine for work and no idea what to go for. I would like a light machine with good battery life, (hence mac.) I mostly use office applications, Skype, Skype for business (maybe) and possibly Gis software but probably not a heavy user of arc map. I would also like to stream and maybe hook it into tv. I would be connecting it to a separate monitor the majority of the time I am working.

I don't understand the difference between MacBook and MacBook Air. Or pro. What would be the best match for me?

Non Apple I am considering Lenovo thinkpad or similar.

Basically, the MacBook Air is a light, consumer-orientated notebook with excellent battery life, where as the MacBook Pro is thicker but has better performance and a far superior display. The 12-inch MacBook is the future of the MacBook Air line and will eventually replace it. It's even thinner and lighter with a better display but has only one port and performance isn't great at the moment.

I'd imagine the Air would do you just fine, though you may want to consider waiting until the next refresh which will probably be in the next few months.

Thanks that is really helpful. No rush on it as I have a thinkpad on loan for two months at least.

They refresh is scheduled for the first week in June at apple's wwdc conference. They usually refresh the mac lineup then.

It'll definitely happen by WWDC at latest, but the MacBooks are so overdue (thanks Intel) I think we may see a quiet refresh or quickie media-only event before then.

Apple is basically back where they were with Motorola and the PPC. Intel will be waving goodbye to their Apple contract before long. And dual-booters will be saying goodbye to Windows.
