So the man on the phone at eircom told me today that these boxes will be all shut down soon. Of course it's in his interests to tell me this. I was under the impression that sky couldn't do anything about them. If they changed their encryption there would be just new software developed to decode it?

Theyve been going around a good few years now, surely if sky could do something about them they would have done it by now? Will they last?

Sky closed the loop on the HD channels nobody has broken it yet, only a matter of time and if sky do change the encryption new boxes would prob be needed....so yes its only time if everyone had a dodgy box their simply wouldnt be no sky or virgin so there would be nothing to hack or watch...

time to people to start seeing this.

I'm always warey of these topics. From time to time, people wish to have a discussion about the issue of television piracy in general, rather than the "how-to's". Discussion of the "how to" is strictly banned but the issue in general may be a legitimate issue to discuss. The problem then arises is that once we start discussing the issue in general, it tends not to be long before people start adding the how-to's.

I'm going to close this thread on that basis, but maybe it is a discussion we might have in the future, if the OP maybe approached it from a different point of view and wasn't so explicit in mentioning methods in the thread title.
