Motor tax office opening hours.

Went to tax my car today and forgot about the utterly ridiculous opening hours at the tax office and missed it by 2 minutes (12:17pm) In this day and age it is downright stupid for a public office to close for lunch! They then close for business at 3pm! What's that all about??? Surely they could manage staggered lunch breaks like EVERY SINGLE other publically funded office and at least remain open to 4pm. What happens now with their stupid opening hours is that there are always queues at the beginning of the month.

I normally do it online but couldn't this time I need the car taxed for going away tomorrow to the Uk and so had no option but to do it today as this trip was short notice thing and thee want time to donut online.

Complete PITA. They are the only public service in Ireland that don't treat you like dirt though, in my experience.

Should be grand in Britain with no tax disc if you do it online, I would've thought. They don't have discs there anymore and scan you with their super hi-tech jet fighters when you go by them.

You can still do it online and just print your receipt.

You'll notice that any arm of the public service concerned with the acquisition of monies from the punter, such as the Motor Tax office or the Revenue, are quite pleasant and helpful to deal with. Most of the rest of them are like falling into a bear-pit with your arse covered in honey.

Thanks, OP. Just remembered that my tax ran out yesterday.

    (It's in the post, guard)

You're right actually! Dealt with Revenue for the first time recently and they were pleasant.

Oh you couldn't deal with better, Revenue are excellent. Except when they're auditing you with an electron microscope and a Vise-Grip. :D

Now that's a pain in the arse. Happened the brother last year, IIRC there was a bit of a rigmatole to replacing it, including a trip to a Garda station. Rare, though.

Yeah think my postman was having an off week or on holidays. In the one week two debit cards, a pin number and my tax disc all went "missing" in the post.

And yeah I had to go to the garda station to get the sign formed for the replacment.

Sadly I chose to arrive in there 15 minutes before the local inspector dishes out the weeks cautions. There were about ten people milling around, and eventually I found out they were all waiting to see the inspector to get cautions, rather than queueing up for something else.
