I got a seiko solar ladies watch at Christmas in Appleby's. I'm very happy with it and visiting that shop is always a treat. Was well within your budget but I tried on fancy watches too.:D. No batteries required. They also had the citizen watches in stock.

Was in the same boat recently and the better half went for a lovely Glycine ladies watch on a bracelet from the local jewellers.

A few options to consider here

(haven't used Iguanasell personally but a few posters here recommended them)

Just wondering does she like wearing a watch bigger than 27mm? AFAIK all the kinetic watches tend to be very thick, and at at least 37mm across because of the movement size.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

+1 on Iguansell. Nice people to deal with, free delivery and returns by DHL (I think, might have been UPS though) and they will give at least 10-15% discount.

I just don't know where to put this question.

I was given a Longines (beautiful watch) for a pressie. It has never been worn because I am afraid I will lose it. Yikes. It cost 1,500 as I was with the purchaser on the day.

I also have a cheapo (kind of), Citizen solar watch and it is the fekkin business. No worries about batteries.

Should I just wear the Longines and not worry about it? It is on the house insurance BTW.

Silly stupid question, but I have never owned a watch that cost so much!

As fits said, it's made to be worn so wear it. My wife has over 10k on her finger and doesn't give it a second thought, in fact I'd say she'd worry more about her rings if she left them at home :D

I feel that watches can be compared to jewellery - would you be comfortable with wearing 1500 diamond earrings for example? If so, then a watch is no different.

I wear my watches in rotation - it doesn't matter if it's a 50 euro one or a 5000 euro one. Especially as it is a present I'm sure the person who gave you the present would be happy to see it being used and loved.

And it's never a stupid question! I'm not sure I'd be so casual about wearing a 50,000 euro watch for example!

Very good point, and value doesn't just have to be monetary either, the guy in Pulp Fiction was willing to risk his life to get a sentimental watch back.

    Thanks all..

Compared with some of your lovely watches, mine is in the hapenny place. But it is still gorgeous.

I will wear it so! Have to find the occasion now....

Any think of the memories of not just buying it with the purchaser but of other happy occasions everytime you check the time :D

F**k it I have to get a new watch

Agreed! My father loves a watch I had made for him for his 50th birthday - it's "cheap" compared to some of the Swiss pieces we see here but he loves it more than any other piece.

Which actually goes back to my other point - always brings a smile to my face to see him wearing it. I'm sure it's the same for any gift giver :)

@Spanisheyes, depending on the style a longings can often be a daily wearer. Perhaps you could try wearing it for most occasions and switching to the Casio when engaged in more "extreme" activities (be that mucking in the garden or practising golf swings).

Oh and something learnt the hard way (should have been obvious looking back) but if the watch has a leather strap, it's not a good idea to shower with it on!

Could anyone recommend a ladies diver style watch – for actually diving with? I may buy her a Seamaster eventually, but probably not in the short term…

Lots of people will mention Seiko, they do so many automatic divers you're sure to find something.

For something different what about a citizen ny2300? It's 38mm so can be considered unisex these days. Lume is great and has a very sturdy automatic movement that can also be hardwound. Also has the day and date for those who like it.
