Call into any shop and get a prepay card
Bring your passport with you as I'd.

Movistar had a good deal when I was there. Think it was about 25 quid for a month's pre-pay with the sim and a few GB of data.

If you're travelling after April 30, new roaming regulations will be in place so it'll be wayyy cheaper so might not be even worth the hassle of a new sim card if it's only for one week.

Don't know what you're asking exactly. Your phone needs to be unlocked if that's what your asking (i.e. you can't be locked to any one service provider)

OP, have you checked the rates on the 3 website for roaming in Spain or elsewhere in the EU? Don't forget that if you get a local sim in Spain, you're just transferring the cost of an international call onto the people who may phone you from Ireland and the rates are probably less than you think if you use your own phone over there. For data, I use the 'EUPASS' option which gives me 50MB a day for €2.50 http://www.three.ie/web/roaming/eu-data-pass/

If the builder or whoever you need to contact has whatsapp/viber/line and you have wifi access wherever you are in Spain you can make a call that way for free. The quality over each of them has improved considerably over the last year.
