    Hi,

I have broadband with Vodafone and just wondering why the IP address they assign to me has not updated in the past 17 days.

Normally when I log into the router it has updated every night.

    Anyone else notice this?

With the current way that Ireland works, with providers being judged as responsible for customers traffic behaviour it makes sense to keep long IP lease times to ease on the amount of data stored for tracking purposes. Perhaps they changed their policy recently for this reason? Daily leases are very admin heavy for large networks.

You can usually force a change by rebooting the modem

Vodafone just started doing TV. That means moving TV customers over from PPPoE to IPoE. They may have moved all VDSL customers, not just those who order the TV package.

PPPoE is a "dialing" connection of sorts, regular new IPs (23hrs59m59s with BT) but IPoE is very similar to regular ethernet. Your IP will be "sticky" and only lose its lease from the local node after 24-48hrs being off. In some cases it will never change.

If you're an online gambler and being nefarious then you could revert to PPPoE and Vodafones RAS would likely still accept your credentials allowing you to change IP on demand.
