    Hi all,

my wife is currently on social welfare, and looking for a job. We have kids also. She is not Irish and is keen to keep our kids' use of her native language up.

She was thinking about the summer when they'd be off school and wondering whether, if she hasn't found a job by then, she could sign off and take them back to her home country for a month or 6 weeks or so. This would be great for them to get experience in her native language.

Is it just as simple as reapplying after she returned to Ireland?

She (and I) don't know whether the whole thing would be allowed or viewed negatively or whatever, and I'm looking for advice and experience on here.

Couldn't predict wether she will be able to sign on again when she returns but don't forget to let child benefit know that she's leaving as well
Write to them well in advance with dates of departure and return

She can make a repeat claim on her return.
