    Hi
Looking at new Hyundai tucson executive. It comes with 17" alloys which I don't particularly like.
I asked to upgrade wheels but price is €2k for 18" and €2.5k for 19". Probably get a few quid off but just wondering has anyone upgraded their wheels and is it worth it?

Was in a similar situation, but they were looking for too much to upgrade & to be honest their 18'' ones are not great looking either. I kept the original 17's which have grown on me, I applied some carbon fibre effect decals I got on ebay, see attached

    Is their VRT/tax implications?
Seems a ridiculous amount for something that will add no value, and could actually make the car worth less in a few years. Prob better looking for something that comes with more spec and big wheels for the same money.
    Is there an equivalent Sporage?

No option at build time to change the wheels so you are paying for wheels and tyres from parts, which is why they are so expensive.

And you get to keep the standard wheels I would hope.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

AmI right in thinking that bigger wheels = lower profile tyres = harsher ride?

Have you taken a test drive yet?

No haven't taken it for a test drive yet. I'm going into tomorrow afternoon.

Kia Sportage in GSE trim includes 19" alloy wheels along with other stuff. The Sportage is the sister car of the Tucson. 2.5k extra for 19" is mad and dead money that you will not see back when you go to sell it on.

    Doubt it.

A colleague has a Tucson on order with 19" Alloys. Price on the order for the wheels is just under €2,000 inc. VAT and I think we are supplying the tyres as we can get them cheaper than the dealer would do them for us.

€500 inc. VAT per wheel seems a bit cheap for a 19" wheel from parts, so the dealer is probably allowing a bit for taking the standard wheels in to stock.

No doubt they will sell them to someone who's damaged a wheel, but they could be sitting in stock a long time. I'd say they'll make good money on the tyres though - take them off the rims and supply as new when a car is in for service at a dealers exorbitant tyre price.

Looked into it myself but 2.5k too much, as mentioned too you'd want to test drive as the ride is rougher

I'm going to get the 17" diamond cut and painted black they look much better like that, been quoted 120 per wheel

Picture shows standard wheel and same one finished

IMHO not at all. Not only you get less comfort, but usually more expensive tyres to buy too. Loose loose situation... ;)

Where did you get that price? Was looking at getting my alloys refurbished.

A place I was recommended over in Ballycoolin, Dublin called Hitech wheel finishes

As a side note, I've had 19" alloys on an X3 with low profile tyres, tyres cost a fortune and the harsh ride meant I cringed every time I hit a bump or pothole

    Never again!

That's always been my understanding; the bigger the wheels, the less comfy the ride. I'm looking at getting the same car in the autumn as the OP and the standard wheels don't look at all shabby to me. I've seen far uglier ones out there. Also, at my age, it's nourishment, not punishment, I need so I'd be inclined to leave well alone when I get the car!

Think I'll go this route cheers,

Don't diamond cut. They look good new but corrode horribly (called white worm) with day to day use . Simple things like stone chips / kerbing / wheelbrace bang break the lacquer seal and once air gets in(and it will) they start corroding from the inside under the lacquer and it looks horrible.

The above is from personal experience of factory diamonds cut wheels which had no kerbing at all and I strongly believe getting them diamond cut aftermarket will mean the white worm will only appear quicker and more aggressively as you can never match a factory paint finish

+1 to the above. Avoid diamond cut wherever possible.
