2013 Audi A6, manual or auto?

So the folks are looking for a change and their heart is now set on a grey 2013 A6 S line. Most likely a 2.0 TDi 177 as it fits the budget nicely.

I've heard bad reviews about Audis Multitronic auto, especially with the 2.0 engine so even though I think an A6 should be auto, would a manual be the better choice?

Anyone here have any experience with this model?

Have looked at 3.0s but all coming in a bit expensive.

see if you can drive a multitronic and you'll know straight away. I've driven a fwd 2.4 petrol multitronic a6 and don't see the issue people have with them. the 2.4 is 177bhp and it is slow feeling for how big the car is. but that's not related to gearbox really.

    177ps is the Multitronic. Got the S-Tronic with 150 / 190 when the A6 got a facelift - think that was late 14 / early 15.

I don't like the Multitronic box, but the recent ones seem to work much better than those from a few years ago, so they'd almost got it right before it was phased out.

Is the 2.0TDI auto not S-Tronic, instead of Multitronic? The S-Tronic is regarded much higher than Multitronic. It's just Audi's name for VWs DSG.
No only the newer ones are S-Tronic and way out of budget! :(

Would they consider a BMW 520d instead with auto?
Similar class car to the Audi and 8 speed auto is very good. I imagine similar money too?

Have looked at F10s but they just prefer the look of the A6, and theres an awful lot of 520ds around here already :pac:

Are the F10s not 7 speed automatics?

It's unreal. The country is full of them.

Was wondering same recently, which is the more reliable box? Putting reliability over comfort id say Manual from reading some of the horror stories online.

I would consider a 2013 A6 too although i would prefer an f10 but would worry about the chain.

Had a drive in a Multitronic A6 tonight. Yes at times the behaviour is a bit strange but overall it works well and is more than acceptable so thats the matter settled, auto it is! :D

Nope, eight from launch of F10.

Except for the M5, which is a seven speed DCT (although technically double clutch gearboxes are automated manuals and not really automatics at all).

Automatic gearbox is any gearbox that shifts automatically, without need for human intelligence or strength...

Otherwise what would you qualify as an AT?
    * Does using a Ravigneaux gearset disqualify a transmission?
    * Is torque converter with lock-up clutch un-automatic enough to land in limbo?
