Do you need a visa to work in Ireland/the EU?

The reason I asked was due to your saying scottish background. If you are a Canadian citizen you need a visa to work in the EU.

There is some info here http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/moving_country/moving_to_ireland/working_in_ireland/coming_to_work_in_ireland.html

With the sort of work you are talking about and the fact you'd need a company to sponsor you you may find it almost impossible to get work here.

If you're a Canadian citizen, and do not also hold citizenship in an EU country then you will need a visa to work in Ireland.

Are you under 35? The working holiday programme may work for you - http://swap.ca/ireland/

If not, then it is unlikely that you will get a work permit for the work you are looking at, unless it generally pays over €30000 per year http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/migrant_workers/employment_permits/work_permits.html

    Over 35,
Also, Canada has become stale in terms of employment..i need to stretch my wings a bit. If i can apply to companies and at least get some feed back it would be good.

If your Scottish heritage is not too far back then you could apply for duel British Citizenship which would entitle you to work in UK, Ireland or anywhere else in EU without a visa.

    https://www.gov.uk/register-british-citizen/overview

Probably the best option for you if you qualify.

Aww. I was really hoping you were recently a chief engineer on a starship, and looking for a position in Ireland.
