Bike Hire - Ring of Kerry

    Hi,

I have been successful in the lottery for the Ring of Kerry cycle. I live in the UK and I have not booked my travel yet, but looking at the prices and the practicalities I think it could be cheaper and easier to hire a bike for the RoK weekend. My family live in Bray, but I will also be likely visiting my grandparents in Cork City, so I have three options for hiring a bike - Bray/Dublin, Cork, or Killarney.

So I am looking for any recommendations, I can only find one hire company based in Dublin, they seem good but would like to see other peoples views.

    Thanks

    David

Cyclescene on Blarney Street in Cork do bike hire. Not sure about price but very friendly shop. Best to contact by phone or email in advance I'd say.

Fairly sure the Giant store in Ballincollig rent bikes.

West of Cork city, just off the main road to Killarney. It mightn't say it on their website but I think I heard they were doing rentals. http://www.giant-cork.ie/en-IE/

In Killarney there is a Bike place with road bikes just out the Muckross road from the town.
It is near the Randles Bros Nissan garage and beside the brewery.

I don't know the name of the shop.

There was bike hire available for the Quest adventure Race in Killarney in March. Not sure what company was providing the service but I'm sure if you contact Quest they'll point you in the right direction. Met a guy afterwards who had hired a full carbon Fuji for the day and said it was €50. Might be as cheap to bring your own......

    171km on a rented bike?

Rather you than me, at least bring your own saddle.

Biking.ie rent out decent bikes inc road and tourers, not sure how'd you get it down to Kerry (rail?)

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll check them out. Good suggestion on the saddle. I'll have the use of my parents car for the weekend, so I can get about now problems.

First time on the ROK? - did it last year, 2 bigish climbs and excellent condition roads.
