Hi we have a triton t90xr that's on its last legs and I'm looking for suggestions to replace it. There is a fair bit of lime in the water here as well so is there any brand that's more reliable etc than another. It's tank fed.

    Thanks.

The Triton T90 has been the best pumped electric shower since the early 80s. No other brand comes close to it for quality and reliability. The spare parts are cheaper than the other brands. They hold close to 70% of the market in Ireland.
The price of the spare parts is very important. The rule of thumb is if the repair cost is half or more than half the cost of a replacement shower then it's better value to replace the shower. This rule of thumb means that brands like Mira are not economically repairable if the motor or heating element fails out of warranty.

Thanks. I've been told the t90z is a direct replacement for the xr, would it be complicated to install myself?

you could but get an electrician to do an earth loop impedance test and rcd trip time test on the circuit so you know it will trip if there is a fault. after all there is close to 40 amps a foot away from you.

he might even change the shower aswell

The trip switch is definitely working because when it was repaired the fella doing it done something wrong and knocked the trip switch.

Simple swap if replacing with current T90 model, otherwise you will possibly need to change position of pipes/electrics and replace a number of tiles.

I would be concerned about the repair guy tripping a switch. I would have expected him to isolate the unit first.

Your location says 'Kildare'. Barretts Maynooth are the main importer for Triton and can supply any spare part. Another reason to go Triton.

The electricity was turned off but when we turned it back on and he tried to start the shower it tripped. If I was to replace it myself, is it simply just disconnect the water from the old one and then to the new one? I'm not sure of the name of it but would I need any of the white tape?

I am not an electrician or a plumber.
In the past, I was going to replace a T90 with the current model at the time as it did look like a simple swap out. However water + electricity (+ me) can lead to disaster so I got it done professionally.

I've asked a plumber and he said €80 to fit so I think that's what I'll do. I'd have no problem with the wires but could be dodgy with the water.

Important to check the power rating of the shower you are installing, if the newer shower has a higher power rating than the original then you may need to upgrade the wiring and fuses.

Woodies have a triton t90z on offer for 230 euro. I don't think Barretts will be as cheap. They are not triton. Triton have the building next door but totally different companies.

Is William Barrett, director of Earthridge not the original owner of Barretts?

Different members of the family own a lot of businesses in that area. A brother owns barretts not all of the family members that are part of earthdridge are involved in barretts. I've a brother owns hair salons and another owns a taxi. Neither one of these businesses are mine but we are the same family.
Look I'll leave it there. The thread is about shower replacement not about someone's family tree.
