Thinking of putting a motor on my dish...

    Hi,
I have a pretty good Satellite setup at the moment which is distributed to every room via multiswitch.

I have a Linux stb and use an online 'service' for non-free channels..you catch my drift?

I believe that if I had a motorised dish I could get more channels.
The main reason I would be looking into this would be for more sports channels, and picking up football games that are not on your regular BT, SKY or Setanta etc. offerings.

Have I got this all wrong?

    all advice welcome

Put a motor on it and you will never look back

All the channels you will ever need and more

I had a motorised dish for 2 years and miss it every day. As other poster says you'll never look back. Entertainment, a great hobby, and a real eye opener on what's out there...

I started off with a motorised setup, but changed to a fixed multi-LNB setup (13, 19, 23, 28) a few months ago as I needed to send the TV around the house instead of one room. Using a motor was not an option anymore for myself.

If you are currently using a linux box with a dish pointed at 28E, have a look into a multi-LNB setup first. As you already have the cables installed around the house, you could go the multi LNB route and use disecq switches. If more than one person watches the TV at home this would be better. In one room you could watch BBC on 28E and someone in another room could be watching ARD on 19.2E at the same time. Couldn't do that with the motorised as it can only be pointed to one satellite at a time obviously.

I'm happy with my new setup. Apart from not having 1W for Norwegian football the past few weeks, I've not missed the motor.

I have a t 90 dish with fixed lnb.. 28, 23, 19, 13,. 8 and I've a separate dish at 30 w.. Id miss it for sure if I didn't have it.. I wanted instant channel change so didn't go the motor Road.. I've been told it's pretty quick though. The t90 is big..and wiggles in the wind so I often have to shuffle it a bit after a storm but it's holding up ok..

It can be an addictive round adding additional lnbs... Far cry from just using sky.. I've feeling in next couple of years I'll be back with sky as family always on about it..

In fact if you were interested in buying my dish and diseq switches and lnb I might be open to chatting..

    Cheers,
    Mick

I'd love to be able to justify buying a T90 Toroidal.....

    Hi All,
Im a complete noob to this but really interested.
I've been doing my research into this and have decided on my box the VU+ Solo 2

I want to access Globo TV for Portuguese they are on E9.0 content for the missus and her family when the visit. I was thinking motorized dish was the way to go, but by reading here, multi LNB's seems to be the better option.

How does this work, does each LNB point at a particular satellite without needing to be moved?
Is it very much dependent on the type of dish I buy?

    Cheers

Re Portugal.. The sat is 30w so you would need a separate dish as the directions are different for most of other euro satellite. Check my install link and it shows the 30w dish I have
    Thanks

Globo on 9E is encrypted with viaccess 2.6

Also you should note that the 9E Globo and the 30W Globo are different. The Globo on 9E is the one that was once on 13E and is the Brazilian TV channel. The Globo available on 30W is a Portuguese variant of the Brazilian channel.

Not sure if that matters to you or not, but thought I'd mention it.

30W is where you would have to go, or IPTV.

personally Id go with a T90 and not bother with a motor.
instant channel change and no noise as it switches .
Little more hassle to set up but nothing too bad !

Its the Brazilian one Im looking for the wife is Brazilian so she likes to catch up on the news. Rede Record is on Astra 28.2 but its not as good apparently. Anything worth watching is on Globo TV. Yes the on 30w is Globo International I think.

30W would require a completely separate Satellite then?

It certainly would. 60cm dish will be plenty
