    Hey guys,

Let’s say there is a student who owes €800 on his rent for student accommodation (for the whole year up to May 31st, there is €800 remaining on the balance) at the minute and is being constantly hounded to pay it up, and has continuously told them he will have more money on the first Friday in April when he gets paid.

He has just been threatened by them: ''we will be looking for your parents number’’.. as a 4th year student 100% paying his own way he (probably stupidly) reacted angrily to this and told them it’s not a 1st year your dealing with who you can bully with parents threats etc.

Anyways he reckons he has angered them and they may be looking to now evict him. Does he need to receive notice of this first or would he have any rights in that situation?

    Thanks in advance

What's in your contract regarding your obligation to pay your debts and the results of non payment?

as a 4th year student 100% paying his own way

Obviously this is not the case, if it was then he would not be €800 in overdue rent debt.

Paying his own way as in not scabbing off parents like most students, trying to work and pay college fees, rent etc by himself

A lot will depend on the type of contract:
    * Is it owner-occupied? If so, the student is a licencee and only reasonable notice is required.
    * Is it college accommodation? Often this is also on a licence basis, not dissimilar to a hotel. Once payment expires, the student can be removed.

Otherwise, the landlord is required to go through the full process of written notice, the PRTB and court.

The college might have a support fund for students in difficulty.

Would work pay an advance on salary?
