Forgive me if I'm doing anything out of line here but is there anybody hoping to apply to the national reserve this year?

The department are claiming there is no demand so Macra are looking for as many examples of people that Do want it so we can put pressure on the department to keep it open.

PM me if this affects you

I want to apply as well this year, never heard about the lack of demand.

It seems to be an fake argument being put forward by the department. The more case studies that we can gather and plonk down on the table in front of them the harder it is for them to argue that there is no demand

why do they want to close it?
do they have to put money aside for it?

the demand argument is piss poor as they know as well as anyone 80% of applications are only put in in the last week before the deadline

Surely it's obvious that they have no money for it??? They can't afford to pay all the people who applied for this year's scheme there's heaps of people waiting for young farmer's from 2015.

Seem to be a good few who narrowly missed out on the scheme. The odd post on here about it and as tp says on the teagasc fb page too.

Hopefully we will get some answers soon

A meeting of the Department of Agriculture’s Direct Payments Advisory Committee is scheduled for Wednesday 6th April in Portlaoise to discuss the 2016 National Reserve and Young Farmers Scheme.
At the meeting, Macra na Feirme will be making the case for a 2016 National Reserve on behalf of young farmers.

Interesting to read this piece on Agriland:

In accordance with the EU Regulations governing the National Reserve, Member States must give priority access to the two categories of ‘young farmer’ and ‘new entrant to farming’.
