    Hi All,

a friend has a '00 E200 thats developed a problem. The battery was shot so we swapped it out. Then the 'alternator problem - Visit workshop' message popped up. Metered the battery and it's not getting circa 14V while running (which would indicate no charge from the alternator). Standing at approx 11.3v while running. Bought a new reg and fitted it to the alt yesterday as they give problems at higher mileage apparently). Still the problem persists. Ideas welcome ! Cheers.

Maybe a bit simplistic but did you check the voltage between the Alternator terminal and earth with the engine running?....also that there is excitation voltage to the alternator.

You may also have to scan it for fault codes and reset them.

Changed the voltage regulator. Had to purchase Bosch as no cheapos in stock. All sorted :)

Got 2 fault warnings which reset after 100mtrs driving.
