    Hi all,

Advice needed if possible, hope that I am in the right forum.

Trying to be as vague as possible while I await response from the secretary of the organisation.

My son is a member of an Irish sporting organisation and will be attending an upcoming event held in Dublin. This event is held bi-annually and has historically been charged for in Euro and now the organisation are requesting the payment be in Sterling only. I have been informed from his instructor that if I insist in paying in Euro then he may not be allowed to enter.

Up till now any payments made to the organisation i.e. all weekly subscriptions, annual membership charge and any courses held by the organisation that my son has attended have been charged for in Euro.

I thought that the legal tender of Ireland being Euro I could insist on paying for this event in this currency and was wondering if I had any legal standing in this regard.

    Regards,

Is this an event that would attract a lot of attendees from the UK perhaps?

Is the payment by debit/credit card?

legal tender affects the discharge of outstanding debts only. They can insist on being paid in advance in tiddly winks or buttons if they wish and you have to accept or not take part in their course.

Just name and shame the organisation in local media, social media. Why should you have to convert currency for them.

Perhaps if they had to convert it, it might cost the OP more ?

The relevant bits are in Bold, from my knowledge if they are an Irish Group then the price is paid in Euro. Also if the venue is Irish then i really dont understand why on earth they are looking for it in Sterling as I dont see a venue requesting payment in Sterling as it is not the countries legal tender.

All I can say about this is it's probably going to make a lot of people unhappy. Either they actually intend to make people unhappy, or they run the sort of group that would be happy on the whole to be charged in sterling. Beats me, I'm a Yank, I have no dog in that fight.
