Colored sand - Humanist ceremony HELP

    We are having a sand ritual in our humanist ceremony and we cannot find colored sand anywhere! Any suggestions????

    Would powdered paint and ordinary sand mixed together colour it?

    Art and Hobby stores should have it, or someplace like a good kids hobby store.. Candle shops also would stock it

    Our celebrant provided it (though they feckin' fleeced us on the "sand ceremony kit" - €70 for an Ikea vase and 4 small coloured sands (we got our kids involved).

    One idea we had, which we never followed through on, would be to look at using sand from your childhood beaches e.g. I'm from Galway and grew up jumping off the diving platforms in Salthill so was going to collect and clean some sand from there whereas Mrs Sleepy is from Dublin and would have spent her childhood summers on Dollymount beach so would have taken some sand from there.

    Be sure if you use that suggestion to thoroughly rinse and bleach the sand to kill off anything in it or your house could end up smelling like a harbour at low-tide!

    I dont think its legal to take sand from beaches in Ireland.

    You can colour sand with food dye. Get the sand from Smyths or somewhere like that and mix it in ziploc bags with the food dye. Did it for our ceremony, really easy and got the kids involved pre-wedding too!
    Google shows up plenty of how-to-videos.

    I just used the site minibear posted. 10e delivered for 3 tubes of sand! Can't argue with that..ebay was more expensive
