Cascais is lovely and there's plenty to do there nightlife wise, but it might be a bit dead that early in the season.

I'd recommend going into the city for a night anyway and visiting areas like Barrio Alto and getting some food in the Time Out Market near the waterfront.

It's 45 minutes by train, tickets are only a few euros each way and the trains start at 5.30am so you can have a night out in Lisbon, stay out late and then get the first train home.

Cascais is a lovely town and a great base for the Lisbon area. We had a family holiday there last July. Nice beaches, good selection of restaurants.

Take a bus to Sintra, most amazing castles built up the side of a mountain. When in Lisbon make sure to visit Belém. Take the tram up to the castle for a spectacular view over the city and the bay.
From Cascais walk the coastal path out to the Bocca d'Inferno (check google maps for details).
Walk along the beach promenade to Estoril and visit the casino.

A lovely town, enjoy your trip.

Take the train into cais de sodre in Lisbon and walk around the old town or head to the park of the nations (expo) to see the aquarium.
There is also Belem to go into the old cafe for a coffee and pasteis de Belem. It's like a custard filled Tartlet. There is also the tower museum and the cathedral of st Jerome.
Under the bridge (25th April) that goes over the river are a load of fish restaurants.

We got washed out in May bank holiday in 2015. So keep an eye on the weather and be prepared to bring a hoody or rain jacket just in case. Nice place to stay and second the Sintra visit. Go for some serious long walks back towards Lisbon along the coast.

Plenty of cafes to pop into:)

If going to sintra , there are 2 castles. One is the old Moorish castle and the other is the royal palace.
There's a bus from the main square up. Even if driving, park in the town and use the bus for your own safety;)

Definitely worth taking a trip into Lisbon to visit the Mercado da Ribeira (hope I remember that right) to visit all the food stalls there

If you have a car, Freeport is worth going to for clothes shopping. Its south of Lisbon.
