I appreciate that this forum is not a news dump, but seems to me that striking at Washington and anything associated with the Capitol is really striking at the heart of the USA. Of course, as of yet it could be anything from a disgruntled employee to a prank and not necessarily terrorism. Hope it's anything but terrorism.

Ironically Washington DCs gun laws are amongst the most restrictive, to the point where the Supreme Court has struck down legislation in the past as it violated the Constitution.

Well if they can't catch a shooter at the Capitol all is well and truly lost.

Just curious, why is this being reported as almost 'local' news? Last time I checked we're not in the US and mass shootings are ten a penny there.

Dublin is the capital. How would a striking here affect the USA?

    I'll bite.

Capitol not capital. Capitol Hill, where the US Congress meets.

    Capitol Visitor's Centre...where's that?

The lockdown is over now. Suspect on way to hospital and a civilian injured by shrapnel. Not sure if she has been hospitalised or not. They got this under control pretty quickly. Good work.

They just said that the shooter was entering the Capitol visitors centre when he set off the metal detector. He pulled out a gun and they shot him straight away.
